Our Mission
Our primary mission is to collect money in a professional and ethical way in compliance at all times with the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practice Act).
Our Story
General Collection Co. has been in business since 1959 and is a family-owned business located in Grand Island Nebraska. We specialize in healthcare, financial services, utility, credit card, and small business collections. It was purchased by Mark Stelk in 1997.
Our workforce encompasses 38 people, including in-house legal personnel. We put our 100-plus years of combined experience to work for clients throughout the nation, including businesses, banks, hospitals and health care providers.
General Collection was recently recognized as a Bronze Accredited Business from the Better Business Bureau for our commitment to honest and ethical business practices over the past ten years.

President
Mark Stelk
Mark purchased General Collection in 1997 after spending 17 years in the banking industry. Since then, business has tripled in volume, and the staff has increased from eight to 43. A Grand Island native, he and his wife, Wanda, have three children and eight grandchildren. Mark’s memberships include:

Dr. Wanda Stelk
Wanda joined the staff as Mark’s personal assistant in 2014 after 35 years of teaching. She holds a BS in education, MS in middle school math and an EdD in educational studies. Her memberships include:
- First Presbyterian Church
- Tutor for pre-kindergarten through high school
Office Manager
Jenny Stelk
Jenny has been with General Collection since 2007, with a break from 2014 to 2022. She rejoined the team in 2022 as the Office Manager. During her time away, Jenny served as the IT Director at Unity Eye Centers. Jenny takes great pride in offering superior customer service to our clients. Jenny earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Nebraska Kearney in 2003. Jenny is an avid ultramarathon runner and loves spending her free time with her three dogs. Jenny is a member of:

Legal Department Manager
Kim Anderson
Kim joined the legal department of General Collections in May 1998, became manager in 2018. She is passionate about her job and loves working with the people both in the office and in the community. She believes a little bit of compassion goes a long way. When she isn’t working she is living her best life with her family and dogs.
