Primary Purpose of the Job:
The Legal Assistant responds to legal calls and questions from debtors and employers while
assisting preparation of legal documents. This position takes payments, releases garnishments, and
also dismiss & satisfy judgements that get paid in full. Publishes notices in the newspaper.
Handles and follows up on garnishment cases by filling out and sending required forms to the
employer and/or the bank. Revives any legal case’s that have gone state. Take judgment on
employers who fail to answer garnishments in time allowed by the courts. Assist in entering new client
judgments.
Essential Duties:
1. Works as an assistant in Garnishment department
2. Works on garnishments completing garnishment cards, order checks, comment in Cyclone and various responsibilities.
3. Sends letters to employers & debtors for Continuing Liens & extensions.
4. Familiar with FDCPA
5. Maintains files
6. Enters Interrogatories
7. Post garnishment fees to debtor accounts
8. Orders funds in from the bank garnishments
9. Sends satisfactions and dismissals to court to notify when legal accounts are paid in full.
10. Publishes legal accounts when needed so judgment can be obtained from court, plus enter
publication fees
11. Revive any legal ease’s that have gone stat, which involve setting hearing dates, serving the
debtor(s). entering service fees, getting services to court schedule an attorney to appear for hearing, &
entering the order to revive into the accounts.
12. Holds Employer’s liable for case’s that we have garnished and the employer has failed to answer
the garnishment withen the legal time given. Involving setting liabllty hearing date, serving the
employer notice ofthe hearing, entering the service feej and scheduling an aUorney to appear for
hearing
13. Takes calls and answers debtor, employer, & bank questions on garnishments
14. Provides support to attorney(s) and schedules them for hearings
15. Under the direction of an attorney, resolves routine legal issues.
16. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal
articles, and legal codes to prepare legal documents.
17. Conducts data entry for tees such as filing fee, certified mail, sheriff, process server, etc.
18. Prepare garnishments, continuing liens, extensions, dismissals, satisfactions, release of
garnishments, revisor forms, liability forms, motion & order to with draw hearings,
publication forms, head of house letters and electronically files an of these with the
correct courts
19. Assists in verifying accuracy & the processing of garnishment orders, completing
garnishment cards, and other varies duties
20. Email’s, fax’s, or mail’s release of garnishments to employers and banks
21. Scan’s orders to revive, judgment on employer- plus all liability & revivor returns into the court cost
accounts & assist with seaning garnishment summons returns into accounts when needed
22. Note acknowledgements of continuing liens and order to deliver.
23. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts- practices, and procedures within the collection field.
24. Works under general supervision

Required Experience:
1. Minimum 1 year of administrative experience.
Required Education:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent required

Skills:
1. Communication skills: Verbal & Written (with Management, Co-workers, clients).
2. Computer skills and data entry (Microsoft Word Perfect, Excel, and Outlook).
Safety Hazard:
1. Minimal hazards. General office working conditions.
